Aankhen 2: Rohit Shetty recently revealed that Ranveer Singh is keen to do ‘Aankhen 2’ and would fit into Govinda’s role in the original. Although the film’s producer Pahlaj Nihalani has only a few words to say about its starcast. His choice for the sequel of this film was not Ranveer Singh but Ranbir Kapoor.
Talking to ETimes, Pahlaj Nihalani said that he wanted to make the second part of ‘Aankhen 2’ from the day he made it in 2009 with Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan Was seen hosting the Filmfare Awards. He said, “They looked great together. I told him myself that I have found actors for the roles of Govinda and Chunky Pandey.”
Rishi Kapoor refused
Nihalani said, “Then Rishi Kapoor told me that his son would not work with David Dhawan and Anees Bazmee if I intended to have him as a director. I used to work with Anees and David a lot in the past and David directed the film.” Pahlaj said that he did not know why Rishi told him so. “Anyway, I didn’t pursue it after that. But yes, after some time, Rohit Shetty met me for it and expressed his desire to cast Ranveer and Arjun Kapoor in it. But he wanted to make it with Sangeeta Ahir. The producer and I told him that I didn’t mind making it with him but I wouldn’t be comfortable giving away my rights to the film.”

‘Aankhen 2’ kept on being made
Pahlaj told, “Then it didn’t happen. But ‘Aankhen 2’ remains a hot property till date. After Rohit, Sajid Nadiadwala showed interest in the matter. I was giving him the rights to make it once , but he always wanted it exclusively. I agreed to that too but somehow it didn’t materialize.”
Pahlaj said that his health was not good after Kovid. He said, “I was sick for the last 18 months, but now I am getting better. It was ultimately a case of food poisoning which combined with the COVID vaccine did not suit me.” Although he said that he still wants to make ‘Aankhen 2’ with Ranveer and Arjun.
